We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Software Engineer to join that very Developer Experience team at Pleo. This role is perfect for an engineer, who is interested in supporting other engineers and learning about their most important pain-points by working closely with them. What will you do? In this role, you will be a force multiplier, enabling other engineers to do even better. You will not only work within a team but also look across Pleo to identify, build, and deliver systemic improvements to help everyone be better and move towards their vision. 

Developer Experience is a pretty senior team which allows for good learning opportunities, but also a very open team where your thoughts and ideas are highly valued. As one team, you’ll provide frameworks, libraries, developer tools and guides to make the life of an engineer as enjoyable as possible. You’ll be building features incrementally, prioritizing early feedback and iterative development.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Never stop being curious and love learning about new languages/ frameworks/ working styles
  • Solving complex technical challenges at scale
  • Ensure a high bar for quality and reliability within your team
  • Coach others to help them develop as engineers
  • Advocate for a more thorough code review process than a quick scroll to the bottom of the page and a “LGTM!”
  • You don’t just write code; you help to design the overall solution
  • You’re a force multiplier within your team - your work enables other engineers to do be even better
What You Bring:
  • Expertise in server-side languages (Kotlin preferred) and cloud environments like AWS or Google Cloud.
  • Proficiency with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL), testing frameworks (JUnit, Testcontainers), and observability tools (Grafana).
  • A collaborative approach and a passion for mentoring and empowering teammates.
  • Experience solving technical challenges at scale with a focus on reliability and performance.
  • The ability to lead initiatives, manage ambiguity, and deliver impactful solutions.

You’ll report to our Engineering Manager and work closely with product and platform teams across Pleo. You’ll collaborate with other engineers and departments to ensure success and continuous improvement in our processes and solutions.

In your first six months at Pleo, you’ll:

  • Lead backend initiatives to improve system performance and scalability.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to drive innovation in our products and infrastructure.
  • Grow your expertise in distributed systems, taking on leadership opportunities and mentoring others.
  • Contribute to Pleo’s mission by building tools that empower teams and redefine company spending.

Salary Range
  • United Kingdom: £79,000 - £83,000
  • Spain/Portugal: €87,000 - €93,000
