Director, Data Science (AI)

The London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) is a global leader in financial market infrastructure, with a large and diverse portfolio of data, products and services. LSEG's Data & Analytics division has a long history of using classical machine learning (ML) techniques, and we're also at the forefront of using GenerativeAI to build intuitive solutions that use the wealth of information in our documentation, datasets and APIs.

We’re looking for an exceptional leader to help build and scale an organization to deliver on this promise. You'll solve customer problems using a combination of classical ML and GenAI technologies, delivering products that both delight our external customers, and help internal customers do their jobs effortlessly. We are not a PoC shop - we ship real products - so we're looking for someone who delights in the messiness of shipping AI-first products.

To be successful in this role, you will need outstanding communication skills, a demonstrated ability to influence company-wide leadership, indirect leadership experience, and deep technical depth. You will have a proven history of being able to set, organize around and deliver on a strategic vision, while also having the technical skills to help your teams navigate science and architectural tradeoffs. This is a leader-of-leaders role, so you will have experience hiring, training and inspiring leaders who will help you be successful.

Key responsibilities:

  • Define, drive agreement on, and execute on a strategic data science vision
  • Hire and develop diverse and impactful data science leaders and teams, providing technical oversight and standardized training
  • Provide technical mentorship and support while letting your team make key decisions and learn from their mistakes
  • Work with Product Managers and Software Engineering leaders to define and iteratively deliver roadmaps
  • Build a collaborative team environment

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics or related field, or equivalent work experience
  • At least 5 years shipping machine learning models, ideally over the full product development lifecycle
  • At least 2 years leading data science/machine learning teams indirectly (i.e., managing managers)
