Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.

Join our dynamic Technology team as a Lead Full Stack Developer and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of financial crime prevention through the transformative Integrated Financial Crime (IFC) Program. This multiyear, group‑wide effort aims to strengthen regulatory compliance, deliver a more seamless client experience through unified technology platforms, and drive operational efficiency through modern engineering practices and innovative solutions.

We are seeking a Lead Full Stack Developer with a clear interest in progressing towards architecture. You will bring substantial hands‑on technical experience, paired with a forward‑looking approach to system design, enabling you to influence long‑term engineering direction and contribute to meaningful enhancements across our technology landscape.

The IFC portfolio is a multi‑faceted programme of change delivered through more than 20 programmes. Its purpose is to build a holistic, risk‑based and effective Financial Crime environment, strengthen the resilience and automation of Financial Crime processes, enhance skills and capabilities across all lines of defence, and empower colleagues, partners and customers to better identify and prevent financial crime by increasing awareness of the associated risks.

To be successful as a Lead Full Stack Developer, you should have:

  • Extensive experience in full‑stack development, including the delivery of dynamic, responsive and reusable components, supported by hands‑on work on Enterprise Case lifecycle applications and backend development using the Java technology stack.
  • Proficient backend engineering capability, encompassing the design, development and optimisation of RESTful APIs and microservices using Java Spring Boot, along with applied knowledge of Spring MVC, Spring Security and Spring Data, and experience building cloud‑native Java components on platforms such as OpenShift or AWS..
  • Deep experience working with event‑driven architectures, including Kafka or other message brokers, and a well‑established background in designing and delivering core API services that enable reuse, consistency and scalability across multiple teams and systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in using React, including React hooks, state approaches (Redux, Context API), and integrating frontend applications with backend services in large‑scale enterprise environments.

Some other highly valued skills may include:

  • Foundational understanding of Camunda BPM for workflow orchestration and process automation, and familiarity with BPMN 2.0 for designing workflows.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI) and containerisation technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Knowledge of unit testing and integration testing frameworks (e.g., JUnit, Mockito, Jest, React Testing Library).
