Purpose of the role

Facilitates and supports Agile teams by ensuring they follow Scrum principles. To remove obstacles, enhance team collaboration, and ensure smooth communication, enabling the team to focus on delivering high-quality, iterative results.  Facilitates Scrum events, promotes continuous improvement, and acts as a bridge between the team and external stakeholders.

Accountabilities

  • Facilitate Events: Facilitates events, as needed, and ensures that all events take place and are positive, productive, and kept within the timebox

  • Support Iteration Execution: Ensures quality of ceremony artefacts and continuous customer value through iteration execution, maintains backlog refinement, and iterates on stakeholder feedback

  • Optimize Flow: Identifies and facilitates the removal of conflict impacting team flow, utilizing metrics to empower the team to communicate effectively, making all work visible 

  • Mitigate Risks: Identifies and escalates risks to remove impediments and shields the Squad from interruptions

  • Build High-Performing Teams: Fosters and coaches Agile Team attributes and continuous improvement, encourages stakeholder collaboration, deputises ‘in the moment leadership’, and drives high-performing team attributes

  • Stakeholder Management: Facilitates stakeholder collaboration (e.g., business stakeholders, product teams, vendors) and builds trust with stakeholders

  • Governance and Reporting: Ensures data quality and provides representation at required governance forums, if applicable

Vice President Expectations

  • Contributes or sets strategy, drives requirements and makes recommendations for change. Plans resources, budgets, and policies; manages and maintains policies/ processes; delivers continuous improvements and escalates breaches of policies/procedures.
  • If managing a team, defines jobs and responsibilities, planning for the department’s future needs and operations, counselling employees on performance and contributing to employee pay decisions/changes. May also lead a number of specialists to influence the operations of a department, in alignment with strategic as well as tactical priorities, while balancing short and long term goals and ensuring that budgets and schedules meet corporate requirements.

  • OR for an individual contributor, they will be a subject matter expert within own discipline and will guide technical direction.  They will lead collaborative, multi-year assignments and guide team members through structured assignments, identify the need for the inclusion of other areas of specialisation to complete assignments. They will train, guide and coach less experienced specialists and provide information affecting long term profits, organisational risks and strategic decisions.
  • Advises key stakeholders, including functional leadership teams and senior management on functional and cross functional areas of impact and alignment.
  • Manages and mitigates risks through assessment, in support of the control and governance agenda.
  • Demonstrates leadership and accountability for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work your team does.
  • Demonstrates comprehensive understanding of the organisation functions to contribute to achieving the goals of the business.
  • Collaborates with other areas of work, for business aligned support areas to keep up to speed with business activity and the business strategies.
  • Creates solutions based on sophisticated analytical thought comparing and selecting complex alternatives. In-depth analysis with interpretative thinking will be required to define problems and develop innovative solutions.

Location of the role is Knutsford

To be successful as a Scrum Master, you must have significant experience with;

  • Planning & Execution - Organising and facilitating Agile Ceremonies, such as PI (Program Increment) Planning, ART Syncs, System Demos, and Inspect & Adapt sessions, ensuring they are productive and focused on delivering value.  You must be adept at ensuring the Kanban/Scrum board is continuously up-to-date and reflective of your development team’s progress.
  • Stakeholder Management – You must be able to evidence the skills needed to secure effective stakeholder collaboration (e.g. business stakeholders, product teams), be able to build trust with stakeholders, and serve as the liaison to other product teams.
  • Agile Values & Principles – You will be accountable for ensuring your team adheres to Agile Values, Principles, and practices.  You will build team cohesion and collaboration, instilling in your team a sense of identity and culture aligned to The Barclays Way. You will be able to effectively coach your development team in self-organisation and building of cross-functional skill sets.  You will encourage and support a culture of continuous improvement, including conducting retrospectives and implementing action plans to enhance processes and future outcomes.
