Conversational Data Scientist
Would you like to build the future of digital customer interaction at Nationale Nederlanden? For an Empowered Product Team (EPT) within a strategic transformation program, we are looking for an experienced Conversational Data Scientist. In this role, you develop and optimize dynamic chat interactions on our new conversational platform (SanneGPT) and ensure that customers are effectively helped within two minutes.
As a Conversational Data Scientist, you are responsible for developing, training, and improving AI-driven conversational flows. You combine data science, AI, and conversational design to answer customer questions smartly, quickly, and correctly.
You work at the intersection of LLMs, data, conversational journeys, and platform integrations. By intelligently integrating business logic and data and applying RAG and LLMs, you ensure that our chatbot conversation continuously learns and improves based on data and usage. In doing so, you deliver a direct impact on customer satisfaction, efficiency, and the automation of customer processes.
What you are going to do
- Develop and optimize dynamic conversational flows based on LLMs (Large Language Models)
- Design and implement intelligent prompts, embeddings, and retrieval mechanisms (RAG)
- Integrate conversational solutions with backend systems via APIs and CMP servers
- Analyze chat data, user interactions, and AI output to continuously improve models and conversations
- Develop data models and experiments (A/B testing) to increase conversational performance
- Improve and train based on metrics such as answer quality, conversion rate, and customer satisfaction
- Validate and fine-tune AI models for accuracy, bias, and reliability
- Collaborate with UX, Researcher, Conversational Experts, Developers, and BI Analysts to realize a continuous improvement loop
Who you will work with
You will work in a multidisciplinary Empowered Product Team (EPT) within a newly established strategic transformation program together with Conversational Experts, AI Developers, UX Designers, Customer Researchers, and Business Analysts. In addition, you will collaborate intensively with the SanneGPT team to further develop and scale best practices, models, and frameworks within NN. We do this on our new conversational platform.
You will also be part of a Data & AI Guild, in which you actively share knowledge, explore new techniques, and continuously develop yourself together with other data and AI professionals within NN.

- Salary between €5,339 and €7,119 based on 36 hours per week, depending on your knowledge and experience

You are a curious and analytical data scientist with a strong interest in conversational AI and customer interaction. You combine technical depth with a sharp sense of customer value.
In addition, you have:
- A WO or HBO degree in Data Science, AI, Computer Science, or similar
- Experience with LLMs, RAG, NLP, and generative AI applications
- Experience with Python and frameworks such as LangChain, LlamaIndex, or similar
- Knowledge of API integrations, microservices, CMP servers, and event-driven architectures
- Experience with data analysis, experiments (A/B testing), and model optimization
- Affinity with conversational design and chatbot development
- Knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) and model deployment
- Strong analytical skills and a data-driven mindset
- A proactive attitude and the ability to work in an agile EPT
- Fluency in Dutch and English
