The Engineering Team
In our engineering team, we build the infrastructure, interfaces, and applications to provide first-class service to our members, health professionals, and even ourselves. We move fast, with a lot of ownership, and are proud to tackle big problems. Those who make product decisions are the same ones who build them. We are the stewards of our members' most sensitive data, and building privacy in by design is core engineering work for us.
The Data Foundations Crew
Our mission is to be the enabling and platform team for data lifecycle and privacy engineering across Alan: retention, deletion, anonymization, and pseudonymization, by design. It builds and runs the Data Privacy Orchestrator and equips each area to own its own data rules on top of it.
Role Responsibilities
- Own and run the platform: Its core engine, safety mechanisms (preview/dry-run, audit trail), and operational health (deploys, on-call, observability).
- Build the paved road: Docs, templates, and self-serve tooling so any area plugs in and manages its own data rules.
- Bridge across areas: Align legal, security, data, and product on requirements; resolve deletion-ordering trade-offs.
- Grow the surface: Extend coverage across data stores and third-party systems as Alan expands into new countries.
Tech Stack
Python/Flask/React and PostgreSQL at the core, in a monorepo we deploy daily. Wider platform includes AWS/GCP, Kubernetes, Terraform, Datadog.

Experience
- Senior/staff-level backend or platform engineering experience.
- Proven track record of building and operating platforms, libraries, or services that other engineers depend on.
- Experience operating across many teams and influencing without authoritarianism.
- Pragmatism under constraint: shipping sound, safe solutions and improving them over time.
- Strong plus: prior privacy, GDPR, or data-governance exposure, and experience working in an enabling or platform-team operating model.
- Must be legally eligible to work in France, Belgium, or Spain.
Mindset
- You treat platform engineering as product work.
- You are hands-on: writing code (Python, TypeScript) and operating it in production (rollouts, alerting, on-call, incident response).
- You design and communicate effectively.
- You are an enabler: measuring impact by how fast areas run their own data rules.
- You build reusable patterns, guardrails, and safe-by-default abstractions.
- Fluent in English (French is not required).
