About the role
As a Senior Database Administrator, you will be responsible for the reliability, security, performance, and scalability of Delasport’s database platforms. You will be the subject-matter expert for our MySQL ecosystem, with a primary focus on large-scale, mission-critical on-premises environments. You will work closely with Software Engineering, Platform Engineering, DevOps, and Product teams to deliver highly available and scalable database solutions. You will also support PostgreSQL as a secondary platform and contribute to our cloud database initiatives, including Google Cloud SQL.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Own the administration, optimization, and continuous improvement of large-scale MySQL environments, primarily hosted on-premises.
- Ensure high availability, reliability, scalability, and performance for business-critical database services.
- Design, implement, and maintain replication, clustering, failover, load-balancing, and disaster-recovery solutions.
- Perform advanced performance tuning, query optimization, indexing, configuration tuning, and capacity planning.
- Develop, test, and maintain robust backup, recovery, and business-continuity procedures.
- Proactively monitor database health, identify bottlenecks, and drive improvements that reduce risk and downtime.
- Partner with engineering teams to improve data models, schema design, application database interactions, and release readiness.
- Define, document, and enforce database standards, operational procedures, security controls, and best practices.
- Lead root-cause investigations for database-related incidents and drive sustainable corrective and preventive actions.
- Automate recurring operational tasks and strengthen database observability, monitoring, and alerting.
- Evaluate, support, and optimize managed database services, with Google Cloud SQL considered a strong advantage.
- Employees may be required to participate in an on-call rotation, ensuring availability outside regular working hours to handle urgent issues as needed as per the On-call policy.
