About Nory

Hospitality runs on thin margins, and most operators are stretched trying to protect them. We built Nory to fix this problem. Nory is a restaurant management system that blends real-time data with machine learning and autonomous agents to give operators real control of their margins. From food prep to forecasting, it is the operational intelligence that helps restaurants run profitably, with less waste and better jobs for the people working in them. Fresh off a Series B led by Kinnevik, we’ve grown to over 100 people across Ireland, the UK, Spain and New York.

The Role

We’re looking for our first dedicated Staff Mobile Engineer to join our Platform team. This is a true builder's role with big impact - you’ll be shaping Nory’s mobile app from the ground up. Design support here is lean - so you'll often be the one making and defending the UX call yourself, not just implementing someone else's spec.

Nory Team is the mobile app we’ve built for everyone on the restaurant floor. It's how staff clock in, check their shifts, book leave and get paid. As part of our continuous investment into our stack, we want to rebuild our app from scratch to make sure we have the best possible experience for our customers. The real challenge is reliability. These apps run in basements with no signal, on cracked and low-spec phones, for people who often speak English as a second language. A failed clock-in means a missed shift or a missed paycheck, so it has to work every time.

React Native is where you'll spend most of your days. Our apps currently run on Capacitor over React, and the wider stack is Python, FastAPI, React, TypeScript, Node.js, AWS (Fargate, Aurora, SQS), Postgres, MongoDB and Docker.

Responsibilities

  • Build for the real world: The app has to hold up on patchy connectivity and low-spec devices (we support down to iOS 16 and Android 12, with as little as 2GB RAM), with offline caching to bridge the gaps.
  • Own the features only a native app can deliver: Push notifications for shift changes and alerts, camera-based scanning for receipts and inventory documents, and geolocation-verified clock-in.
  • Make and defend the product and UX calls yourself: You’ll decide what ships and what gets cut when a deadline forces a trade-off.
  • Set up the design system and put AI agents to work in parallel: Modular building blocks in React Native, and a codebase designed for coding agents to produce good output.
  • Grow the rebuild into a platform: Owning the quality and pace of the mobile codebase and giving other engineers at Nory a solid base to build on.
  • Work closely with design and engineering: Stay outward-facing as the core of a small platform team.

What we offer

  • 🏡 Remote-first working environment
  • 💰 Competitive salary depending on experience
  • 📈 Meaningful equity. At Nory, everyone is an owner
  • 🌴 35 days of paid leave per year (including bank holidays)
  • 🏥 Comprehensive private health insurance via Irish Life (Ireland) and AXA (UK)
  • 🍼 Enhanced parental leave and baby loss support
  • 📚 Learning and development culture, with a €1,000 personal annual budget plus a quarterly book budget
  • 🖥️ €250 home office workspace budget
  • 🥳 Regular team offsites and socials
  • 🌎 Work from anywhere for up to 3 months of the year
  • 📍 Offices in London, Dublin, or Spain

What you’ll bring

  • Deep React Native experience and comfort across the stack: You’ve shipped production React Native apps in TypeScript and can run a mobile codebase on your own, start to finish. You’ve built native-only features like push notifications, camera access or geolocation, and you’re comfortable enough in the backend to read and lightly extend our FastAPI services.
  • You build for scale and reliability: You’ve worked on apps with real usage behind them, tens of thousands of actions a day, and you’re careful about API calls, webhooks and performance.
  • You actually care about product and UX: You can point to a specific product or UX decision you made that changed what got built. Design quality is part of the engineering to you.
  • You build with AI, but you don’t let standards slip: You get a lot faster with AI agents while still holding a high bar on detail, design and craft.
  • You’ve done a from-scratch build or a big migration, and you own problems, not tickets: You’ve taken something greenfield from nothing to shipped, or torn down and rebuilt a legacy app.
  • You’re outward-facing, and you communicate clearly and confidently: People need to be able to follow you quickly, in person and in writing.
  • Right to work: Right to work in the UK or EU without sponsorship is required for this role.

Bonus points

  • Experience building people tech or HR tech workflows at scale.
  • A background on a web and mobile platform team.
  • Experience building B2C or consumer-grade apps.
  • Some hands-on tinkering with native APIs (Swift or Kotlin).
  • Experience in hospitality, food service or another operational industry.
